UF Wordmark Blue Light Emergency Phones Protect Campus

For over twenty years, the University of Florida has installed Blue Light Emergency phone systems to address the security needs for the campus. The Blue Light solutions integrate interactive voice with other common security technologies. All Blue Light phone installations are designed to provide:

  • High Visibility, which is a requirement because awareness of security is a critical element of any complete solution.
  • Interactive Voice, which is a primary security technology capable of providing benefits which no other security technology can provide.

Each Blue Light emergency phone system is directly connected and monitored 24 hours per day by the University Police Department (UPD). There are 245 Blue Lights installed throughout the campus. For the period of 07/01/03 to 05/05/04, UPD received 408 calls via the Blue Light emergency phone system.

The cost to maintain the Blue Light phones and the associated telephone circuit costs are recovered as part of the UF administration telephone line charges. The campus Blue Light systems offer faculty, staff and students a level of incident deterrence and management that contributes to a safer environment and helps to reduce expenses for costly patrolling of our extensive campus areas.
