UF Wordmark Incident Response Workshop

A workshop is being offered Wednesday, December 14, to introduce changes to the UF IT Security Incident Response Procedures, Standards and Guidelines [1]. These changes were recently implemented by Dr. Hoit, UF VP for Information Technology [2].

This workshop will cover the importance of responding to security incidents and how network and server managers can effectively remedy tickets in a timely manner. It will also serve as an informative session for the new Florida privacy law that took effect July 1, 2005 [3]. Incident classification and media response will be covered so all UF IT workers will understand response procedures for incidents.

A similar workshop was offered in June [4], prior to the implementation of the new privacy law, to cover a draft of the standard. The December 14 workshop covers the final revisions of the standard and additionally includes guest speakers to address other topics relevant to incident response.

After an overview of the new policy, Everall Peele from the UF Privacy office will give a presentation on the role of the UF Privacy Office and the UF Privacy Policy. Chris Wagoner of SFCC Police Academy will provide useful forensics tips. Kristina Raattama from the UF Office of General Counsel will be available to answer your legal questions.

The UF IT Security Team appreciates your aptitude and desire to stay informed.
