Derrius Marlin grew up in Melbourne, FL and moved to Gainesville in 1984 where he subsequently married, started a family, and landed his first real job involving computers. That first job was with the Mid-Florida Area Agency on Aging where he provided general PC support, wrote DBMS applications in Clipper, and ran a BBS.
Derrius has spent the last 16+ years at the University of Florida where he's been primarily involved in UNIX systems administration using the Sun Solaris and Linux operating systems, but has also administered servers in Novell Netware and Microsoft Windows Server environments. His time at UF has taken him from the Departments of Psychology, Statistics, Biostatistics, and Chemistry.
During his time in support and systems administration activities, Derrius developed an interest in computer security issues. Over time his interest in computer security grew from a simple fascination, to a hobby, and now to a career as an IT Security Engineer with the UF Security Team where his duties include intrusion detection, incident response, and various security related projects.
When he's not working or catching up on some recent trade rag or blog, Derrius enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids or delving into one of his collected books (currently at 85) in self study of his favorite historical figure, Abraham Lincoln.
