UF Web Administration has begun the task of updating their Webadmin site. As part of that process, the office has employed various tools in order to create a more intuitive site structure. One of the tools used was a card sort. Card sorting is a lo-fi usability technique where topics or item names are placed on cards and users are asked to group the cards into piles of similar content. Once the piles are created, the users then come up with names for these collections of items.

After testing several typical users, patterns in groupings based on both observation and statistical analysis can be determined. This assists in finding logical groupings, better naming conventions for groups and is helpful in revealing mistakes made when labeling items.

Card Sorting is just one of many tools Web Administration has at their disposal in order to identify and improve the user experience.
